Weather Policy
If severe weather or heavy rain is expected or the courts are extremely wet due to earlier rain, the day’s session will be cancelled for safety reasons. A decision to cancel will be made 2 hours before a session starts if possible. Cancellation notice will be sent by email or GroupMe if it is short-notice.
If a rain shower occurs during camp or near the start of camp unexpectedly in HC or BH, we will move to a sheltered area. A decision will be made to continue camp or to cancel camp for the remainder of the day. If possible, we can do activities in the grass, have snack, and play Tennis Jeopardy as the courts dry.
In the event of an electrical storm, we will immediately move campers to shelter (public bathrooms or cars) and then make a decision whether to wait it out or cancel camp for the remainder of the day.
If more than half of a camp day is cancelled due to weather, efforts will be made to make-up time such as shifting camp time, extending a different day if possible, joining a session another week, using Friday as rain day when scheduling and resources permit.
If more than half of a camp week is cancelled, an Eyes on the Ball Tennis credit for a future program will be given.
Depending on the forecast, the first Emergency Contact For Camp that you entered when you registered may receive a text to opt-in to receive text messages about camp this week, using GroupMe. You do not need to get the app. If you have the app, you may need to turn notifications on if you have them muted. This will allow us to contact everyone at once, without sharing your numbers, if there is a pop-up thunderstorm or change due to heavy rain, etc. If the weather is predicted to be clear all week, you will not get the opt-in text.
