Our Coaches

Dr. Sophie Woorons, Brookstone Tennis Owner/Director Bio

Sophie had the vision and the passion to build and grow the Brookstone Tennis Club. After cutting the trees, grading the land, building the courts and the building, creating the programming and hiring the best team, Brookstone has now been named National Club of the Year with a striving community and an unequal team of members, coaches and administrators.

Lucien Woorons

Lucien (Luke) came to Brookstone in 2006 to help daughter Sophie with the project of building the tennis community. Incomparable in his experience, child development and coaching abilities, Lucien stands out as the most knowledgeable, caring and enthusiastic coaches you'll ever meet. 

  • Noah Johnston's coach and partner in crime.
  • 45 years of experience coaching high performance athletes in gymnastics, fitness and tennis.
  • Degree in Sport Pedagogy from the French Gymnastics Federation.
  • Lucien also coached daughter Sophie from age 8 through her junior international career and the WTA Tour, traveling around Europe and the US. His experience with player development is unparalleled.
  • USPTA Certified. 

 


Kelly Shuler - General Manager

I chased Kelly down the parking lot to beg her to come on board with us. Kelly has now taken on the role of General Manager at Brookstone Tennis. None of us really know how much that entails except that with a smile she keeps track of all of our members, coaches, adult lessons, juniors, parents and employees. 

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Administrative Management from Clemson University.
  • 35 years of experience in customer service and managing employees in various fields.
  • 25 years of experience working with children.
  • Responsible for all operations related to Brookstone Tennis including lessons and clinic scheduling, accounting and member services.
  • Brookstone Junior Team Tennis Coordinator.


Maxime Desmars - Max's Story

Our Head teaching professional started with us as an intern when he was just an undergraduate student athlete at Lander University in 2011. Max's accolades are plenty. After 7 years with us, he took a position in North Carolina to follow his wife's career but life was able to bring them back home to Brookstone in 2023.

  • Head Teaching Professional at Brookstone 
  • USPTA Certified.
  • 4 years experience with the Raleigh Racket Club as Director of Junior Programming.
  • USPTA Southern U30 Pro of the Year, 2018.
  • USPTA South Carolina Assistant Pro of the Year, 2015.
  • Recruited from France to play on scholarship for Lander University (Top 10 Nationally ranked D2 school).
  • Coach’s Award in Men’s Tennis, 2012 & 2010 (Lander University).


Lee Ann Wilson

Lee Ann has been an integral part of Brookstone since it's inception. Beginning as our manager in 2005 she has seen the club grow from a local facility to National Club of the Year. With her off the chart organizational skills, Lee Ann has structured the league play and practices for all of our Brookstone Members. 

  • Brookstone League Coordinator for all adult and senior teams.
  • Schedules all matches and practices for our Brookstone Teams.

 

 


Dr. Stephen Brown

With an extensive resume in education and coaching and a high energy personality, Stephen speciliazes in both adult and junior development. 

  • PhD in Educational Leadership.
  • Five years of experience teaching high school and college mathematics.
  • Fulltime Coach at Brookstone since 2023.
  • Coached two years of middle school basketball.
  • Coached three years of varsity baseball.
  • Great with children since he's just a big kid at heart!

 


Ashlen Chapman

 After growing up on the Brookstone courts, Ashlen went on to becoming a scholar athlete at North Greenville Univeristy. She has been teaching part time with us since 2019. She is now pursuing a Masters in Marriage and Family therapy at Converse University.

  •  Scholarship athlete for North Greenville University.
  •  Women's Tennis Team Captain from 2024-2025.
  •  Conference Carolina's Scholar Athlete.
  •  Graduated in 2025 with a Bachelors of Science in Psychology with a minor in American Sign Language.

 

 

Sean Harris

Sean comes to us from England. After his college tennis career Sean was hired as assistant college coach for Queens university in Charlotte. We are thrilled to now have Sean on our courts working with our high performance program and our adult clinics. Sean's experience includes:

  •  Assistant College Coach for 2 years as a Graduate student at Queens University of Charlotte 
  •  College Athlete at Queens University of Charlotte

              3 time regular season and 2 time conference tournament Champions

               Featured in 3 NCAA Division 2 tournament competitions reaching a school high NCAA national ranking of 15.

               Coaches Award as a Freshman at Queens 

  •  Trained in Barcelona, Spain, hitting alongside ATP and WTA pros with experience playing at ITF futures events
