Programming

The STA offers various programs for both youth and adults throughout the year.

Block Parties:
Block parties are free events. The June party  kick off summer activities and the October party to celebrates the end of the outdoor season by winterizing the outdoor courts, publicizing winter activities, and having fun.. Teaching pros provide activities and instruction for ages 6 and up. Door prizes for participants and drawings for STA members are usually held along with food and refreshments.
We do leave the nets up since Mother Nature allows us to play outside various times throughout the winter.

Junior Clinic:
This clinic is offered by Doug Stevens, a USPTA certified Elite professional/PTR certified professional, in Jan. and Feb. for players in 6th -12th grades. It is held at the Donald E. Young Sports and Fitness Center indoor tennis courts. Players are divided into groups by ability. 
There is a charge and STA members get a discount.

Kid’s Lessons:
These lessons are offered at the Donald E. Young Sports and Fitness Center indoor tennis courts in January and February for ages 6-8 and 9-11. There are two sessions that run from 3 to 4 weeks again depending upon court availability. There is a charge and STA members get a discount.

Middle School Tennis:
Since middle school tennis is not an official Spearfish Middle School sport, the STA offers this program for any 6th-8th students in the Spearfish area who wish to develop tennis skills. Participants in this program play in JV/MS meets with area schools and some may play on the Spearfish High School tennis team. The middle school and high school girls' tennis season is in the fall and the boys' season is in the spring.

Winter Open Gym:
This program is for middle school age players through adult and usually starts in October and ends in March depending upon the BHSU Young Center schedule. Sessions are once a week in the evening for 1 ½ to 2 hours.
The BHSU Young Center does charge players for each session.

AM Tennis:
This is a group plays tennis year round, depending upon the weather. Usually in March, play begins outside at 9:00am on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings. In June play begins at 8:30am, when it is cooler. We also play on Wednesday evenings in the summer at 6:30pm. In October depending again on weasther, play moves indoors to the BHSU Young Center indoor courts, day and time subject to the BHSU Young Center schedule. The BHSU Young Center charges players for each session.
