🎉 BIG NEWS FOR ROCKLAND COMMNUNITY TENNIS! 🎾
We’re thrilled to share that Rockland Community Tennis is now officially recognized as a USTA Foundation National Junior Tennis & Learning (NJTL) chapter—in addition to being a USTA Community Tennis Association (CTA)!
🌟 What This Means for Our Kids
Becoming an NJTL chapter takes our mission to the next level and opens the door to even more opportunities for the youth we serve:
- Greater access to free and low‑cost tennis programs for underserved communities
- Life‑skills and education support woven into tennis instruction
- College and career pathways, including NJTL‑recognized scholarships and college‑readiness opportunities
- A stronger focus on character, confidence, teamwork, and leadership
- Expanded resources, grants, and support through the USTA Foundation
NJTL chapters use tennis as more than a sport—it’s a tool for learning, growth, and opportunity. This new designation allows us to serve more kids, deepen our impact, and continue building a welcoming, inclusive tennis community across Rockland County.
We’re incredibly excited about what’s ahead and grateful to our families, partners, coaches, and players who made this milestone possible. The future of Rockland tennis just got even brighter! 🎾
Let’s grow the game—and the next generation—together.
Introduction
Rockland Community Tennis is dedicated to advancing health, wellness, academic success, and essential life skills for children across Rockland County. As a USTA‑recognized Community Tennis Association (CTA) and USTA Foundation National Junior Tennis & Learning (NJTL) chapter, we use tennis as a vehicle for youth development, education, and long‑term opportunity. Through partnerships with the United States Tennis Association (USTA), along with the North Rockland, Suffern, Nyack, Pearl River, and South Orangetown School Districts—and their Parent Teacher Associations—we provide free or low‑cost introductory tennis programs at elementary and middle schools across these districts.
Consistent with the NJTL mission, our programs integrate tennis instruction with life‑skills learning, academic reinforcement, and pathways to continued participation and college readiness. We also operate inclusive programming at the Piermont Community Center for children with developmental disabilities, delivered in collaboration with New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD)–approved fiscal intermediaries to ensure accessible recreational opportunities for all.
Each year, approximately 900 children participate in at least six weekly one‑hour sessions, ensuring broad and equitable access—particularly for the 15% of under‑resourced youth living below the poverty line. In targeted communities, we offer free one‑hour sessions four days per week for six weeks during both the spring and fall seasons.
Beyond the school year, Rockland Community Tennis delivers summer camps and weekend clinics at participating high schools, maintaining year‑round engagement and strengthening pathways into school teams, community play, and lifelong involvement in the sport.
Our mission is simple yet powerful: to make tennis a pathway to healthier lifestyles, academic enrichment, character development, and personal growth for every child in our community.
