Local Pros

The Outer Banks Tennis Association is fortunate to have some phenomenal pros working to help you improve your tennis game. Whether you are brand new to the sport of tennis or you've been playing for years, our local tennis teaching professionals are dedicated to making sure you learn to LOVE the game. All pros listed below United States Tennis Association Safe Play approved and certified to teach tennis by the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) or Professional Tennis Registry (PTR).


Richard Harfst - Richard is a USPTA certified teaching pro.


Kate Heggie - Kate is a USPTA and PTR certified pro in adult/junior/child development. She has been teaching at Pine Island Racquet and Fitness Center in Corolla since 2007. Coach Kate has been with the OBTXA for several years, teaching and volunteering at different events.


Claire Spencer - Claire is a USPTA-certified tennis professional. She attended Carleton College where she played atop the singles lineup of the Carleton Women's Tennis Team. There she was a three-year all-conference singles player, two-year conference champion, and two-year NCAA competitor.


Allison Hudson - Allison has been playing tennis since she was 8 years old. She played tennis throughout her high school years and has particiapated in USTA Youth Tournaments and USTA Jr Team Tennis. Allison is USTA Safeplay approved and has a certification for coaching Special Olympics Tennis and Adult Cardio. She is currently working on attaining her professional certification. 

Betsy Williams has been assisting with OBXTA tennis clinics for a couple years.  She moved to the Outer Banks in 2018 after a career in education.  During her career she coached the local high school girls tennis team.  During this time she trained as a USPTR coach and participated in summer coaches clinics at the Univ. of Virginia and Hampton Institute.  She currently plays on USTA teams and our local social tennis teams.
