Start with level 7 tournaments and build your ranking by earning points for every round won. When you are ready for the next level of competion, play USTA sanctioned junior tournaments and earn a state and national ranking. There are sanctioned tournaments across the state almost every weekend of the year. Out of state tournaments also count towards your ranking. The more points a player has, the higher level tournaments they can enter. Higher levels (lower number) are worth more points per round won than lower level tournaments (higher number). For example a level 3 torunament is a higher level, more competative tournament and worth more points than a level 7 beginning level tournament and therefore worth fewer points. The points earned from your best 6 singles and 6 doubles tournaments count towards your ranking within a rolling 12 month period. It is this ranking that colleges look at when recruiting for their teams.
