THE BASICS

A fun way to play weekly singles matches on your own schedule. The organizer will rank the players and set up one match per week for everyone on the ladder.  Sign up on Thursday for the following week.  Skip any weeks you need and play any weeks you can.  Families will book courts, provide balls and send scores to the organizer.  Scroll down to read the FINE PRINT for more details.

TENNIS RULE VIDEO

Arrive on time with a new unopened can of soft court balls - winner keeps the unopened can to bring to the next match.

The server keeps score and calls his/her own score first loudly and clearly before serving. Players can only call the balls, or double bounces or anything else that happens on his/her own side of the court.  If a player is not sure about a call, the opponent gets the benefit of the doubt and the ball must be called in.

If after playing a point, players realize the score was called incorrectly or the server served from the wrong side, correct the position and/or score and move ahead.  Do not re-play points unless play has been interrupted by a third party.  Any player can call a let.  A let is when the serve hits the net before landing in the correct service box and it is also anything that interrupts play - like a ball from another court bouncing on the court during a point.

High school students are earning volunteer hours as officials.  This is a great experiene for them and it's good tournament style practice for the players.  In tournaments no one is allowed to interact with the players during the match except an official.

Organizer: Coach Kat kacierno@palmcoastgov.com
Facility: Palm Coast Tennis Center 1290 Belle Terre Parkway, Palm Coast, Open Monday – Friday: 8am – 2pm & 4pm – 9pm Saturday & Sunday: 8am – 2pm (386) 986 2550
Tennis Rules: USTA Friend at Court 2021

For players ages 11 to 17 who can serve, rally, keep score and make fair line calls using regulation yellow balls on a full 78’ court. Special permission from the organizer may be given to younger players to join the ladder if they meet the above criteria independently without the help of an adult.

All ladder matches are to be played at the Palm Coast Tennis Center.  Registration is free.  Players registered by Thursday June 3, 2021 at 7pm will be ranked on the ladder by the organizer on Friday June 4.  New players who register after June 3, will be placed at the bottom of the ladder or ranked within the ladder at the discretion of the organizer.  Please notify the organizer as soon as possible of any weeks you might be unavailable to play so matches can be organized around this information.

Beginning each Saturday after 6pm, the organizer will email all participants with the updated ladder and assigned matches for the week.  Players or parents will contact their assigned opponent to set up their match. Both players will agree on the day and time to play the match between Sunday morning and Saturday afternoon.  The player or parent lower on the ladder (aka challenger) will call the Tennis Center to reserve the court up to 3 days in advance during business hours - do not leave messages.

Each player will pay $5 for the court and each player will bring 1 new unopened can of soft court regulation balls to the match.  The winner will keep the unused can of balls to bring to their next match. Cans may be purchased for $4.00 at the Tennis Center, or players may bring an unopened can of regulation soft court balls purchased elsewhere.  The players warm up each other’s ground strokes, volleys and overheads for 5 minutes followed by 2 minutes of serve warm up.

Matches consist of best of three NO AD sets to 6 games win by 2 games.  At 6-6 play a 7 point tiebreaker.  At split sets, break the tie with a 10 point tiebreaker win by 2 points.

A few Green Dot players have been invited to participate.  They will play one 8 game no-ad pro set, win by 2 games, at 8-8 they will play a 7 point win by 2 point tiebreaker.

If the challenger wins, the challenger will take the spot of the defender on the ladder and the defender will be bumped down 1 rung. If the defender wins, the rankings do not change.  If the match can not be completed within the 1 and half hour court time, report the score as is - whoever is ahead will be considered the winner.  Tie goes to the defender and there is no change in the rankings.

The matches must be completed and results emailed to the organizer by both players before Sat 2pm. At that time the organizer will update the ladder based on the reported results.  The cycle will begin again each Saturday after 6pm based on the new rankings.  Send the results in this format:
List winner’s name and game scores first for example
Chris Evert def. Jimmy Connors 6-2, 5-7, Tiebreak 10-8

The organizer may change the match format and ladder rules if needed to improve players match play experiences.
