Flagstaff Tennis Association Serve Tennis Account - FTA Directors

FTA Board of Directors

FTA Board members are community volunteers who donate their time and talents.

President - Jean Brown

Dr. Jean Brown is a life-long tennis enthusiast and supporter, participating in USTA leagues, tournaments, group clinics, and other tennis venues throughout most of her life.  She enjoys every aspect of the game but is particularly inspired by the way tennis brings people together to enjoy each other and stay healthy.

Vice President – Allison Bates Caputo

Allison began her tennis odyssey at a young age. She got away from the game at the end of high school, but played on and off (more off) during college through her 'middle ages' in Flagstaff. Brought back to the game through a friend, it was working with Nicole Chambers that helped Allison discovered her love of the game again. A recreational and USTA player, Allison recognizes the potential in the Flagstaff tennis community and is excited about the opportunities the FTA has to enhance tennis in Flagstaff.

Director - Jenny Garcia

Jenny has played tennis most of her adult life and is a frequent USTA League player. She is community-minded, serving as the Coconino High School Girls Tennis Team coach since 2012. Jenny has inspired her entire family to take up tennis as a source of healthy exercise and family fun.

Director - Anthony J. Medina

Anthony J. Medina is a recent (2018) transplant to both tennis and to the Flagstaff community.  Growing up he played both football and basketball, and now plays the myriad sports enjoyed throughout the Flagstaff community including tennis, golf, hiking, biking, and pickle ball.  Prior to retiring to Flagstaff, he and his wife lived in Albuquerque, NM where he was an executive at Sandia National Laboratories.  He was active in the community,  where he was chairman of the NMSU College of Engineering Dean’s Advisory Board and an active member of the state of New Mexico Review Board for the National Science Foundation program Alliance for Minority Participation in Science and Technology.

Laura Nicol - Director

Laura began her tennis journey at the age of 47! Over time she’s proud to have improved her skills by taking lessons from local pros, playing with friends, and getting involved with league play. When she was ready to step outside of lessons, the local tennis community was so welcoming and encouraging. She can appreciate the anxiety that comes with the first competitive tennis experience. Her favorite partners and opponents are her sons and her best friend.

Vicki Penna - Director

Vicki was introduced to tennis as an adult, played for 2 years and put her racket down for 15 years.  Starting again around 5 years ago, Vicki is thoroughly enjoying playing and meeting so many wonderful people through tennis and the Flagstaff Tennis Association.  Vicki is a semi-retired professor of Dental Hygiene from Northern Arizona University.

Vaughan Winborne – Director

Advisor-Tennis Professional – Nicole Williams-Chambers

Nicole has been a long-time FTA supporter, helping shape its foundational documents and serving in a variety of advisory capacities over the past several years.  She is a USPTA P-1 tennis professional and is the Director of Tennis at Forest Highlands, where programming runs from April 1st until October 31 and offers Adult and Junior tennis clinics and private lessons.  From November 1st until March 31, she teaches tennis in the greater Flagstaff Community and often partners with other teaching pros. She also does tennis racquet repairs and stringing.

Advisor-Tennis Professional  - Rick Goldwasser

Rick Goldwasser has worked as a tennis professional in Flagstaff for the past 10 years. For 24 years before coming to Flagstaff, he taught every level of tennis from tots to seniors at the SCORE Tennis Center near Chicago. The SCORE Tennis Center is best known for its outstanding junior programs. He has taught and mentored nationally ranked juniors players and top-performing adult league players.
