Rockland, NY - Thanks to a partnership between the Piermont Police Athletic League and Rockland Community Tennis Association, the Piermont Community Center will host a series of USTA Tennis 101 and Team Challenge events every Tuesday from 5:30-7:30pm starting on January 4 until the end of February 2022.
“Making these two tennis programs accessible is an incredible opportunity for the children of our community,” said RCTA Co-founder Dennis Zaide. “With this partnership, we are able to provide affordable indoor play alternatives for our young athletes throughout winter and continue their progression.”
USTA Tennis 101 is a fun way to learn the sport for new players or someone coming back from an extended time away. Each class is designed to engage players through interactive activities and fun games to build skills and confidence to play and enjoy the sport. Participants do not need any prior experience to enroll.
For progressing juniors, USTA Team Challenge is an introduction to tennis competition offering a low-pressure team environment for children of all ages to develop their skills through level-based play, without an emphasis on instruction or results.
“The hard work the children put in learning to play the game is truly inspiring,” added RCTA Head Coach and Co-founder Erin Murphy. “We’ve worked with the kids every week this past year and will continue to do so at the start of the new year. Whether their individual goal is to develop their skills to make the school team, navigate the college recruiting process, gain confidence or simply have fun through social play, we’ll be there.”
At a recent local radio interview, Piermont Police Athletic League Director, Tahlaad Mahboeb said “Having RCTA here at the Piermont Community Center is an exciting addition to our activities for the kids. It will be a great program for introducing tennis to the community.”
