Kokosing Valley Community Tennis Association serving the tennis community of Knox County/Mount Vernon, Ohio

Getting to know us

KVCTA was established in 2009 to promote and support the game to the youth of Knox County and Mount Vernon, Ohio.  To fulfill this purpose we:

  • offer lessons with age-appropriate courts, balls, rackets, and lessons
  • provided 4 new 36-foot youth tennis courts.
  • acquired a grant to have 60' court blended lines installed on our public courts
  • sponsor Play Days and Orange/Red Ball Tournaments
  • established and maintain a Middle School Tennis Club since the local school district couldn't offer tennis as a middle school sport
  • participated in USTA's Junior Team Tennis program for middle school and high school players
  • conduct a Level 5 USTA junior tournament in honor of well-known tennis coach, Frank Giampaolo, a Mount Vernon native
  • sponsor the KVCTA Girls' High School Tennis Team Invitational
  • promote tennis instruction in school districts' physical education classes through teacher training and providing equipment
  • provide opportunities for  youth players to participate in USTA events at the ATP and WTA's Western and Southern Tennis Tournament at the Linden Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio
  • received a USTA Midwest Diversity Grant to make it easier for the local Hispanic population to participate in lessons
  • promote on social media our local tennis community, the middle school tennis club, and the girls' high school tennis team on Facebook pages
  • received grants and sponsorships to provide backboards and windscreens for the public courts.

Moving forward, we would like to improve the adult tennis community to further strengthen our youth programs.

Stay Active Videos

Try this activity at home or on the court to work on hand-eye coordination and control. To make it more challenging, try spreading your arms out wider or letting the ball bounce higher. Try to see how many you can get in 30 seconds.

No court to play on at home? No problem! Make your own net at home using regular items from around the house. Get creative, but make sure to ask for permission from your parent or guardian before using!

Edgies works on your grips, specifically a continental grip. Using your racquet with a continental grip, try and see how many times you can hit the ball using the outer edge of your racquet. You got this!
