On Saturday, 45 BCTA indoor tennis participants (November 2025–March 2026) convened at the Doylestown Tennis Club to showcase their tennis skills in Red, Green, and Yellow Ball division matches based on skill and age categories.
Athletes, selected by their coaches for this invitational event, engaged in fun competition through round-robin formats in the Green Ball and Yellow divisions. This format allowed participants to compete against various opponents, striving for the highest team score in number of games. Three times a year, the nonprofit BCTA unites its seasonal participants from around the county to enjoy informal and fun tennis competition, with opportunities to play on teams, earn gold and silver medals, receive recognition for good sportsmanship, and take home promotional items.
Competition within the Green Ball Division remained closely contested, yet the Black team persevered over the red team to secure the gold medal 207 points to 177. In the Yellow Ball division, the team lead fluctuated throughout the competition, culminating in the Black team narrowly capturing the gold medal over the Red Team with a score of 54 games to 51.
The Red Ball division engaged in a cooperative team event, earning points for maintaining continuous rallies and succeeding in various team games. Notable highlights of the evening included the longest rally of the night, which reached 52 strokes, and a timed team score of 8 seconds in the tennis sandwich relay. The overall team score of 953 shattered the previous BCTA Team Tennis record, ensuring that all participants left with gold medals.
A huge thank you to the Doylestown Tennis Club for generously providing the courts, and to USTA Middle States for the sportsmanship prizes. Appreciation also goes to the BCTA Coaches, volunteers, and parents whose on-court assistance made the event memorable.
COMMUNITY COACH WORKSHOP
The tennis weekend continued into April 19 with a community tennis coach workshop hosted by the BCTA in collaboration with the USTA Middle States section. Just under 40 current coaches and aspiring coaches gathered for an interactive workshop led by BCTA Coaches Craig Batten, Phil Heft, and Steve Johnson. USTA Middle States Senior Director of Community Development Renee Lentz facilitated discussions on effective coaching strategies and shared information on the next steps in the USTA Coaching pathway, along with additional available resources. While inclement weather moved the workshop from the recently opened outdoor tennis courts at Central Park in Doylestown, the new Doylestown Recreation Center served as a great backup.
The BCTA sincerely thanks all workshop leaders, presenters, and participants for contributing to the success of this event.
