Community Workshop Developed Confidence and Inspiration

Public parks are a great way to learn and play tennis—the healthiest sport on the planet. The Bucks County Tennis Association (BCTA), Inc., provides fun, affordable public-park programs conducted by coaches who are passionate about the game and want to share their love of the sport.

On Sunday, April 27, just over 30 tennis enthusiasts—some current coaches, some current players, and some future coaches—shared their time as well as their love of tennis by participating in a free interactive workshop that illustrated fun and safe strategies to engage and manage groups of players of all ages and skill levels.

USTA Coach Developers Amanda Shaw and Craig Jones explained how to use the Athletic Development Model (ADM) across the 5 Cs:  Connection, Creativity, Competence, Confidence, Character, which all influence development practices.

The USTA's Community workshops train new coaches on how to introduce people of all ages to the lifelong sport of tennis. Many current BCTA coaches were also in attendance and offered their experience and thoughts on coaching tennis in public parks throughout Bucks County.

At the conclusion of the three-hour workshop, participants agreed that they felt more competent and more enthused to share their love of the sport with people of all ages and skills.

The BCTA thanks USTA clinicians Amanda and Craig as well as USTA Middle States for their efforts in making the workshop happen. And a huge thank you to Doylestown Tennis Club for use of its courts.
