Third Annual Love Cup Wraps Up Successful Season at Two Sites

Despite a rainy finish, the Third Annual BCTA Love Cup Junior Tennis League celebrated another successful season of team-based tennis for area youth. This year’s league expanded to two sites, Doylestown and Newtown, giving even more young players the chance to compete, develop their skills, and experience the excitement of team tennis. At the Central Bucks West High School site, 44 young people competed against each other, while 24 competitors vied for the championship at Council Rock North High School tennis courts.

After three weeks of spirited round-robin match play, weather unfortunately forced the cancellation of the finals weekend. With scheduling conflicts and limited makeup options, league organizers used regular season standings to determine final team placements:

Throughout the season, over [insert total number] participants showed great improvement, sportsmanship, and teamwork. Volunteer parent coaches played an instrumental role in guiding teams each week, and the energy from players and families created a fun and encouraging atmosphere at both locations.

“Of course we would have loved to finish on the courts, but the growth and joy we saw each week is what makes the Love Cup special,” said Coach Steve Johnson, who oversees the program for the Bucks County Tennis Association (BCTA). “The kids handled the rainout like pros, and we’re already looking forward to building on this momentum next season.

“I want to give a special thanks to all of the parent volunteers who helped as on-court monitors, scorekeepers, and coaches. Without them, this event isn’t possible.”

Awards are being distributed in BCTA programs to recognize each player’s contributions and celebrate another great season.

The Love Cup continues to grow as an entry-level team competition, offering young players an accessible and enjoyable introduction to match play while building confidence and friendships along the way.
