SPUD (Special Population Unified Doubles)

This USTA Southern tournament was started in 2009 and features special athletes competing with unified doubles partners in a team competition.  The 2025 tournament is scheduled for July 11-12 and is expected to feature athletes from the two Carolinas, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama and Florida.  There is no entry fee and athletes receive a t-shirt in their team color, lunch 2 days, a pizza party Friday night featuring a live band (The Combo Kings) and awards.  Jim Hamm, Jack Barker and Rex Maynard are the three principals who organize the event.  The tournament is presented by USTA Southern and the Belton Tennis Association.  SPUD was named the 2019 USTA Southern Special Event of the Year and received the USTA South Carolina Diversity Award.
