Meet The Coaches

Director / Lead Coach:

Kristina Alling

Tennis has played a predominant part in Kristina’s life for the past 45 years. At age 11, she picked up her first racquet and has never looked back. After competing all four years as a scholarship athlete on Villanova’s Division I Women’s Tennis Team, her involvement in “the sport of a lifetime” has continued to evolve. Kristina’s passion for tennis is evident through her enthusiasm whenever she steps on the court, be it as a player, instructor, or coach.

Kristina has long been a prominent and respected instructor in the Montgomery County area and is one of few local professionals with the skill set and expertise to teach both adults and children. For over ten years, she served as Tennis Director at a local club, where she implemented Quickstart/10 and under Tennis and the modern ways of teaching children. She has also coached several adult teams to USTA Districts, Sectionals and Nationals as well as developing several junior players to play at the collegiate level. Kristina was also the Head Coach for North Penn High School girl’s tennis team and in only her second season, she led them to a Conference Championship for the first time in 24 years. This is one of her proudest accomplishments as Kristina herself was a two-time state medalist and Hall of Fame inductee for North Penn High School.

In addition to coaching, Kristina remains a high-level tennis player. She plays at a 4.5/5.0 USTA level and has competed at a USTA National Championship in women’s and mixed doubles for several different teams.

Kristina holds the highest level of PTR certification in both junior and adult development and has had considerable success coaching players at all levels. However, it is her daily interactions and mini successes on the court with her students that truly motivate her.

Kristina grew up and still lives in the local area. She has three daughters who all played varsity tennis for North Penn High School and continued to play club tennis at their respective colleges. She has a full-time job with a local pharmaceutical company but stays involved with tennis in every way possible by working as a board member and instructor for PSCTA.

If you have any questions at all about tennis, please contact her @ kristinaalling3@gmail.com. If Kristina cannot answer it, we’re not sure who can!

She continued her tennis career and love for animals at Delaware Valley University; where she was the captain of both the mens and womens team in 2019 and 2020. She led her team to the Semifinals in the Mid Atlantic Conference Tournament which was the first in DelVal history. She was a coach with PennSuburban back in 2017-2018, and again 2021- to our current season and many more! She currently works at Merck as a scientist at their West Points site and is a doctoral candidate in graduate school.

Karen Johnstone

Karen’s passion for tennis started as a young girl watching Billie Jean King beat Bobbie Riggs which was labeled the Battle of the Sexes. She knew nothing about the sport, begged her parent’s for a tennis racquet then needed to convince someone to hit with her. She played in high school and college then fast forward to adulthood when she played on many USTA and WTT leagues. Her WTT team made it to National’s where she played her matches at Indian Wells with her idol Billie Jean standing on the sidelines, quite a thrill!  Tennis has been a huge part of her life, the camaraderie, friendships built over many years that continue to enrich her life.  Karen began her volunteer coaching career 3 years ago with BCTA Public Parks (Bucks County Tennis Association) and this year assisting PSCTA (Penn Suburban Community Tennis Association) deciding to give back to something that has been so rewarding for her. She enjoys mentoring the next generation in a sport that can sustain and enrich for many, many years.

Karley Alling

Karley is from Lansdale and tennis has always been a part of her life. Karley was a four year varsity player on the North Penn high school tennis team as well as the MVP in 2018. She was also a two time captain and led her team to a league championship. Karley is returning to PSCTA for her fourth year and this time as a lead instructor.

Karley is currently a student at Temple University and is working towards her degree to be a teacher in early education. She has always loved teaching in the classroom and on the court. In her free time Karley likes to go shopping, play with her dog Mia, and try new restaurants.

Assistant Coaches:

Jack Bachman

Jack was born and raised in Lansdale, PA and has been playing competitive tennis for over ten years. His proudest tennis accomplishment was competing as a varsity member of North Penn High School Men's tennis team, where his match play contributed to the team's 2021 Colonial League Championship title - the first time in ten years! Jack is eager to return for a third year of teaching with PSCTA.

Jack loves working with our youth programs and his enthusiasm for teaching is usually reflected in the smiles on the faces around him! He is an exceptional role model for our young students and PSCTA is fortunate to have him on staff before he begins attending Brown University in September.

Nathania Princley

Nathania graduated from North Penn High school this year. She played on the NPHS Girls tennis team in the fall and plays tennis for fun. She will be majoring in Aerospace Engineering this year at Pennstate. She loves learning different languages, playing new instruments, and tutoring students.
