USTA 10 & Under Tennis

Our program follows the USTA's 10 & Under format, adapting the game for younger players so they can learn, play, and love tennis from the very beginning.

How it works:

By scaling down the equipment and courts, children can engage in rallies sooner and enjoy a more successful and fun experience.

  • Smaller courts and lower nets: Easier for kids to move and cover the playing space.
  • Low-compression balls: Bounce slower and lower, helping players hit more successfully. Different ball levels are used based on age and ability.
  • Child-sized racquets: Lighter and easier to grip for better control and comfort. We provide junior racquets for students to borrow, though players are also welcome to bring their own racquet.

Ages 5–6

  • Children learn to use their racquets and judge the flight of the ball through fun, engaging activities.
  • Lessons focus on racket and ball coordination, using special equipment to build hand-eye skills.
  • The ultimate goal is for each child to enjoy the experience of rallying and gain confidence on the court.

Ages 7–8

  • Players progress from simple rallies to actual gameplay on a 36-foot court.  The scoring system is also modified to make it simpler.
  • Points start with a serve, and players begin learning basic tactics, recovery after shots, and smart shot selection.
  • Children are introduced to the rules of tennis — learning to keep score, call balls in or out, and announce scores properly.

Ages 9–10

  • Players develop consistency and control through forehand and backhand rallies, often rallying successfully with a partner by the first session. They also begin using the 60’ court size designed for their age.
  • As their skills grow, they begin to understand tactical play — learning how to apply technique in different match situations.
  • Emphasis is placed on fun, teamwork, and sportsmanship while preparing for future match play.
