Meet Owen Kassimir

Owen brings more than 20 years of coaching experience on Long Island and has worked with players of all ages, from beginners to high‑level competitors.

He began coaching collegiate tennis at the New York Institute of Technology in 2017. Under his leadership:

• The women’s team won three straight East Coast Conference titles
• Owen earned the ITA East Region Coach of the Year Award (2018)
• The men’s team won the 2018 ECC regular‑season title and qualified for two NCAA Championships

After NYIT closed its tennis program during COVID, Owen joined Friends Academy, where he continued building championship teams:

• Girls’ Long Island Champions (2021) and NYS runner‑up
• Boys’ Long Island Champions (2023–2025)
• New York State Champions (2025)

His coaching achievements have been widely recognized:

• Long Island Tennis Magazine Coach of the Year (2023)
• USTA Nassau County High School Coach of the Year (2025)
• Newsday Long Island High School Coach of the Year (2025)

Professional Background

Owen is experienced in designing training programs, developing competitive strategies, and supporting players’ athletic growth. He is certified in Adult First Aid, CPR, AED, and is Safe Play compliant. He also holds professional certifications in both tennis and pickleball through RSPA and PTR.

In addition to his work at North Shore Towers and Friends Academy, Owen coaches at Sportime Clubs, working with juniors and adults in both group and private settings, including players preparing for USTA and tournament competition.
