Our Coaches

Robert J. Herrera was born and raised in Greeley and grew up playing baseball and tennis. Robert is a former No. 1 Singles player for University High School and played club tennis at the University of Denver.  Robert currently the President of the Greeley Tennis Association, ("TAG"), Board of Directors and plays in may local leagues and tennis tournaments. In 2019 Robert won the Work out West Greeley Tennis Championship in Men's Singles and Men's Doubles. In 2024 Robert won the Loveland Open Tennis Tournament Men's 4.0 Singles. Robert is the Director of Tennis for the Greeley Country Club, Assistant Tennis Coach for the Girls and Boys Tennis Teams at Northridge High School.  Robert is also a member of the Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) and United States Tennis Association (USTA).  

Brenda Gallegos is a former UNC Tennis Coach. She held several different titles while working for the University of Northern Colorado. She started in 2002 as an assistant coach with the women’s tennis team and was named the head coach for the women in 2004. In 2005, she added head coaching duties of the men’s team, but relinquished that role in 2010 to Tim Bearman.  Brenda took the UNC tennis team to new heights in the Big Sky Conference. She is also only the second women's coach in school history, as she replaced longtime coach Rosemary Fri in 2004. The Bears have advanced to the Big Sky Conference Championship five times since joining the league in 2006-07, doing so in 2008, 2009, 2012, 2013 and 2014. She has also had seven Big Sky All-Conference selections, which are voted on by the league’s coaches.

Brenda and the Bears closed out the 2014 season while recording program firsts. Her squad started the Big Sky schedule 5-0 while also beating Colorado State for the first time in the Division 1 era.

Brenda spent two years playing at Tyler Junior College, helping the team to a pair of NJCAA titles in 1998 and 1999 at number one singles. As a sophomore, she tallied a 34-5 singles record and a mark of 35-5 in doubles.

Her final two seasons were spent at the University of Arkansas, where she played number two singles and number one doubles. Brenda was named to the SEC All-Academic team and was ranked among the top 100 according to the ITA.

Brenda graduated from Arkansas with a degree in kinesiology in 2002. She earned her master’s degree in sport administration from Northern Colorado in 2004.

Prior to Arkansas, she attended Tyler JC in Texas and won two NJCAA Titles. 

In 1995 she earned a bronze medal at the US Olympic Festival and in 1996 she won the doubles title at the Easter Bowl (resulting in a top three national doubles ranking). 

In 1992 she finished in 5th place at the USTA Claycore Championships which earned her a National Ranking of #3. Brenda began playing tennis at the age of 5 and in 1990 she was the Girls 12 National Champion.

For her efforts both off and on the court, Brenda was inducted into the Colorado Tennis Hall of Fame on Jan. 28, 2011, one of four inductees in the 2010 Class.

Michael Malnati has been an active coaching member of the Greeley, and Colorado tennis coumminites since 1995. He first began coaching tennis for the City of Greeley in. In 1998 Malnati became an assistant coach at University High School, and helpted the Bulldogs to acheive four regional titles. In 2018 Malnati became an assistant coach for the University of Northern Colorado Men's Tennis Team and in  2019 became the assistant coach for the UNC Women's Team. 

Laurie Anderson has been an active tennis player in the Greeley tennis community for 20 years and an instructor for the past 10 years.

Her love of tennis began at Work Out West where she eventually held the position of tennis director. One of her greatest joys is teaching

juniors tennis and seeing them smile on the court. She hopes that someday they will share her love of tennis.

Laurie was on the USTA CO Board of Directors for 10 years and currently head of the USTA CO Junior Committee. She is a Tennis Association of

Greeley past President and currently a board member.

Chuck Bridges was an all-around athlete in his youth before concentrating on basketball in high school and at the University of Redlands (CA) where he also earned his MBA. After completing his university studies, Chuck began a heavy concentration in racquet sports and became a nationally ranked Racquetball player (3-wall outdoor), an Eketelon sponsored athlete and Head Teaching Professional at Irvine (CA) Clubhouse Raquet Club. Moving to tennis, Chuck became a US Professional Tennis Registry certified instructor in 1999. He as coached boys and girls high school tennis teams in California, Arizona and Colorado and provided instruction in all three states. You will notice Chuck wearing cochlear implants as he is legally deaf and has participated in the US Open Deaf Tennis Championships, US Deaflympics and US Dresse & Maere Cups (equivalent to Davis and Billie Jean King Cups). Chuck has two athletic boys Matthew and Jayson who lives with him in Greeley.

Emma Rose is a marketing major at CU Boulder and will be a member of the CU Club Tennis Team in the fall. Emma played high school singles for four years for Greeley West and Resurrection Christian School. She enjoys coaching all levels, and loves teaching kids and hitting with higher level players.
