On July 18th, 2022, FTA Board Members (Gordon Medford, Jenny Garcia, Anthony Medina, and Jean Brown) presented a compelling presentation to the Flagstaff Parks and Recreation to request that the Flagstaff City Council name the courts at Hal Jensen Recreation Center, “The Ron Hren Memorial Tennis Courts”.  Mark Lavine, a longtime friend of Ron’s described their friendship and Ron's ability to convince and persuade people to get involved in our community.

Ron Hren was an enthusiastic tennis advocate for the Flagstaff Community.  Ron passed away two years ago after a short illness.  For the past 18 years he had revitalized our tennis community by organizing and running the Flagstaff Drop-In Doubles Tennis Group.   This was an outlet for city players of all skill levels to enjoy organizing tennis outside of a USTA league.  Ron was an avid tennis player who participated in many league and city events

There are over 100 people who have participated and continue to take advantage of this activity during the year. The group typically consists of 20 to 24  that show up every Monday, Wednesday and Friday to play and have fun.

The FTA's next step is to present to the Flagstaff City Council in October for the final blessing of naming the courts The Ron Hren Memorial Tennis Courts.
