The Origin Story (No Capes, Just Rackets)

Tennis is often referred to as a lonely sport. It’s only you out there on the court-no coach, no teammates, no one else. But that's not entirely true. That moment when you're in a match, when you’re serving for break-point, or returning to drag yourself into a deuce, you often catch yourself glancing at your box (well, not exactly a box yet but your parents). The thoughts in your mind reflect the community and team of support you have. Tennis at the end of the day is a team sport, and that’s where GameSetMatch (GSM) comes into the picture.

Last summer GSM was unofficially created when I went home and complained to my parents about just not having enough people to hit with. I knew there were other people who felt the same way; who wanted to play hard, laugh harder, and grow in every aspect of the sport. That is the foundation of GSM. Designed to be your support system, GSM is a club created to help tennis players unlock their true potential through a network of hitting partners, tournaments, and people who just love the game. Whether you’re a beginner or you’re already playing in the Junior US Open, we want you on our team. Each member of GSM brings a unique attribute and perspective which helps everyone on the team grow. GSM is meant for those who are passionate about tennis and want a space of support that will help them focus on their next goal.

Hosting tournaments is another side/aspect to GSM. My family travelled far and wide to participate in tournaments last summer and during one of our usual practices at our favorite Robinswood Tennis Center, we learnt the center was closed during summers. It just felt such a waste of an opportunity to not make use of such a convenient facility close to home and play tournaments there instead of travelling far and wide. After discussing this opportunity further with Robinswood Tennis Center, we are excited and grateful to partner with them to host USTA Level 6 tournaments at Robinswood during summer weekends. Extending this thought further, to better serve the community, GSM decided to host Fast4 USTA tournaments on weekdays at Inglewood Middle School courts.
