Jackson Hole Community Tennis - Campaign for the Courts

Campaign for the Courts

ACTION ALERT...NEED YOUR HELP BY DECEMBER 12!

Teton County Community Tennis Association is working hard to bring affordable and accessible indoor courts to the area through partnerships and fundraising in the community.

**Great news Teton County indoor tennis advocates! IF you voice your support NOW to the Board of County Commissioners & the Parks and Rec Advisory Board, we could have three indoor tennis courts at Stilson in as soon as two years!

We need to show up in numbers doing these 2 things now and NO LATER THAN 12/8.

There will be a vote or decision made by our county commissioners in the near future as to what ultimately goes into this Stilson allotment and the more input from the tennis community, the better chance we have of getting tennis courts there and ideally covered courts. You WILL make a difference.

#1: Complete this Teton County survey: https://engagetetoncountywy.com/h4521

#2: Email the county electeds expressing your support for the project at Stilson and for the TCCTA to create and operate a seasonal* indoor tennis facility in cooperation with Parks and Recreation (Contact info and sample email below).  * “Seasonal” because permanent athletic structures are not allowed.

Here is what’s happening:

The county is finalizing plans for two outdoor tennis courts and three softball fields at Stilson.  Additionally, there are plans for a restroom and parking at the location.  This means nearly everything necessary will be in place to use the planned courts for a seasonal indoor tennis facility.  They plan to begin construction as early as 2024 (full details can be found in this link):

https://tetoncountywy.gov/DocumentCenter/View/27248/1002JIMA-Cow-Pasture-Fields-Status-Update---Final

How this would work:

-        Teton County Community Tennis Association (TCCTA) will work with the County and Parks and Recreation to add the necessary site enhancements to enable the use of a seasonal bubble.
-        TCCTA will fundraise for the third court and install a seasonal indoor tennis bubble over the three courts.
-        TCCTA will work with Parks and Recreation to staff, program, and maintain the seasonal structure.  Tennis programing will be 100% community focused to ensure it meets the needs of both our youth and adult tennis program needs at affordable prices!
-        This structure will blend into the existing winter landscape.  It will have lighting to comply with our dark and starry night skies initiative.  Due to the location of the seasonal tennis structure adjacent to the existing parking lot structure, minimal additional impacts on wildlife would be expected.
-        The additional traffic and facility use is minimal compared to the existing parking and planned housing at Stilson.  Public transportation and the planned extension of the bike path ensure that the public will have easy access to this ideal location.

Our ask of the County and Parks and Recreation:

-        Endorse the seasonal tennis court structure at Stilson.
-        Add a third tennis court to the plan.
-        Make the site improvements/build infrastructure to allow the installation of a seasonal tennis structure and to heat and winterize the planned bathrooms for use during the winter for the tennis facility.

SAMPLE EMAIL to the Teton County Board of Commissioners and Teton County Parks and Recreation Advisory Board

Dear Teton County Commissioners & Parks and Rec Advisory Board,

I am writing to express my full support for changes to the Stilson Park plans and for a seasonal indoor tennis bubble for three courts.  This vital community need can be met by directing Parks and Recreation to collaborate with the Teton County Community Tennis Association (TCCTA).  TCCTA will fundraise to cover all costs related to constructing and operating a seasonal tennis facility.  TCCTA will also collaborate with the USTA and the USTA Wyoming Tennis Association to ensure the success of this initiative.

This structure will blend into the existing winter landscape.  It will have lighting to comply with our dark and starry night skies initiative.  Due to the location of the seasonal tennis structure adjacent to the existing parking lot structure, minimal additional impacts on wildlife would be expected.

This facility will not create a meaningful increase in traffic and is served by our existing public transportation system.

This important public resource can be achieved by:

-        Amending the existing plan to add a third tennis court.
-        Adding the minor infrastructure requirements for a seasonal bubble to the existing plan.
-        Adding heating and winterizing the restrooms which are already included in the plan.
-        Negotiate with Jackson Hole Mountain Resort to allow for this enhanced use of Stilson Park.
-        Direct Parks and Recreation to collaborate with TCCTA to achieve this vital community goal.
