Location: Dwight Davis Tennis Center is located in Forest Park, just south of the Missouri History Museum (5620 Grand Dr, St Louis MO 63112, 314-361-0177). You may find street parking, or there is plenty of parking in the large lot on the east side of the tennis facility. There is seating available, or you can bring your own chair and umbrella to give you more location options for viewing. DO NOT USE THE PARK ENTRANCE AT 64 AND HAMPTON! Instead, use the entrance at Forest Park Parkway and DeBaliviere, or the entrance at Skinker and Lagoon Dr (which become Grand Dr).
Early warm-up: The courts will be open for warm-up one hour before the start of play each day (Friday at 2 pm, Saturday at 7 am, Sunday at 7:30 am). Officials will ask players to clear the courts about 10 minutes before the start of play. (It is each player’s responsibility to make sure they check in on time!)
MATCH FORMAT: Doubles will be no-ad scoring, single elimination, 8 game pro-sets (7-point tiebreak at 7-all). Singles will be ad-scoring, best of three tiebreak sets (10-point tiebreak for the 3rd set).
Check-in: Please check-in 15 minutes before your first match, and 10 minutes before the start of all subsequent matches.
Health: No player or spectator should attend the tournament if they have experienced any COVID-19 symptoms in the prior 14 days, or if they have been exposed in the prior 14 days to anyone testing positive for COVID-19 or suspected of being COVID-19 positive.
Player Sportsmanship: We expect good sportsmanship from all players in St Louis. I tell juniors you can be a great tennis player AND a good sport! One important skill in tennis is making good line calls - - if you’re not sure, it’s IN!
Spectator Sportsmanship: Spectators should be good sports too! If you are not a player or an official, you’re a spectator, and you may not involve yourself in any match in progress. Communication with your player during the match is coaching. Remind your child (prior to their match) to use their score tender, make prompt/loud line calls and call the score before they serve!
Officials: We will have USTA officials throughout the tournament. The role of officials is to ensure fair and continuous play. Players and parents can help ensure a positive tournament experience by remembering the following:
Food/beverages: The pro shop at Dwight has a cooler of beverages for sale and some prepackaged candy and snacks. The Boathouse (lunch and dinner) is a 5-minute walk from the tennis center. The Visitors Center across the street from Dwight has a café open for breakfast and lunch.
Restaurants: There are several areas a short drive from Forest Park with lots of restaurants. University City (The “Loop”) is just north of Forest Park. The Central West End is just east of the park. Clayton is just west of the park. And “The Hill” and “Dogtown” are just south of Forest Park.
Stringing Service: Dwight Davis does not have a stringer on site. One stringing option is to take racquets to Forever Tennis (721 Old Frontenac Sq, 63131, 314-995-6860), which is open 10 am-6 pm on Friday, 10 am-5 pm on Saturday, and 10 am-2 pm on Sunday (The trip from Dwight Davis to Forever Tennis is about 9 miles / 20 minutes.) There is a stringer who will pick racquets up from Dwight and return them later in the day or overnight. If you are interested in this, please let me know.
Off site warm-up courts: Flynn Park, 420 Midvale Ave, 63130 (about 2.5 miles from Dwight). Clayton Shaw Park, 231 S Brentwood Blvd, 63105 (about 4 miles from Dwight)
