What to expect from Match Play
Developed by the International Tennis Federation (ITF), the ITF World Tennis Number (WTN) is a rating that provides a global standard for players in both singles and doubles with a scale of 40-1. WTN Match Play allows players to participate in matches that count towards their WTN without having to commit to a tournament. Players can be placed in groups based on their rating to promote an appropriate competitive level and positive sportsmanship through level-based play. Please note that WTN Match Play is offered in orange, green, and yellow ball programs, but orange ball does not count towards WTN.
Match Play Event held in conjunction with the Adult Match Play Event so players may play adult players in addition to junior players.
The SVTA Match Play event will be from 9 am to 2pm at the Winchester Parks and Recreation Lowry courts located next to Shenandoah University. Players will be placed in draws based on their WTN. Each match in the tournament will be a 6 game set with the winners advancing in the main draw. Players will play 3 matches (sets) regardless of results. There is a 24 player maximum including both the junior and adult registrations.
