WITHDRAWALS & RETIREMENTS
Many times players are withdrawing at the last second before matches or even after the match time, leaving their opponent to show up for the match, only to have the match excused as a Walkover instead of a Default because the player did finally communicate with the tournament, although not in a timely manner.
Please make sure you understand the following policies regarding withdrawals (outside of during a match) and retirements (during a match) that occur during a tournament. These are not new regulations and can be found in the USTA Friend at Court and will be enforced.
- All withdrawals (once the tournament begins) require a written email.
- Only withdrawals for injury, illness or special personal circumstance are excused. Not wanting to continue play is considered a default.
- Withdrawals must be received more than one hour prior to the stated match time to be excused.
- All retirements during a match require that a player both 1) Notify the official or tournament referee that they are retiring and the reason for the retirement and 2) Send an email to anderson14651@hotmail.com within one hour of the retirement that occurs to stating the reason for the retirement and if the player wishes to continue play in the tournament in subsequent matches, if applicable.
- Any player retiring during a match is expected to play any other matches scheduled for that player (including consolation matches), unless the player notifies the tournament VIA EMAIL they will not continue play in the email to follow retirements.
- Any players who does not notify the tournament in a timely manner of withdrawals/retirements through emails as stated above will be subject to the match being recorded as a “Default” which results in up to five (5) USTA Player Suspension Points.
Player/Parent Expectations
This is a National Level 6 event. Players and parents should be experienced participants in USTA junior tournaments and know the "Rules of the Road". Tournament staff and officials are focused on maintaining a fair atmosphere for the event. Below are some items to make sure everyone is on the same page:
- Players are expected to be on-site and checked-in for their match on Match Tennis app 15 minutes prior to their stated match time. LATENESS PENALITIES WILL BE ENFORCED without exception.
- All 8am matches will automatically be assigned a court by 7:45am. Players are expected to be on their court by 8am or be subject to lateness penalties.
- Players are penalized for lateness based on when they arrive to court, NOT when they check-in on MTA. For example, if a player has a 9:15am match and checks in on MTA at 9:13 and arrives at court at 9:21. They will be penalized for lateness. The player cannot claim they checked-in prior to their match time.
- If a player checks in early and receives the court assignment early, then they are expected to report to the court early. For example, if a player checks in at 9am for a 9:15 match and receives the court assignment at 9:05, they are expected to go on court at that time.
- Players should confirm their score before leaving court and report on MTA immediately. Any player who does not report the score within 15 minutes of the end of the match loses their right to appeal the score that is put into the draws.
- Parents, coaches and other spectators must remain a minimum of 15 feet away from the fence surrounding the court. If there is no room around the court that is a minimum of 15 feet away, they must find another location.
- Players taking a bathroom break or leaving the court for any reason must have the permission of the offical PRIOR to leaving the court.
- Communication between spectators and the players is prohibited and will be enforced. Comments from parents or coaches to their player's opponent on the court will result in the individual being removed from the property without warning for the rest of the event. Coaching of their own player will result in a code violation being assessed against the player. A second violation will result in the individual being removed from the property for the rest of the event.
- Players are expected to adhere to normal tennis protocols while on the court during and after the match. Ball abuse, racquet abuse, foul language and other behaviors will be penalized and submitted for player suspension points. Excessive yelling so as to intimidate their opponent will also be penalized. Cautions for behavior may be used in the officials judgment, but code violations can be given even for a first-time occurrence.
- Blatant foot faults may be called without warning.
- Players should know how to play a match tiebreaker. Go ahead and take your 3-minute coaching break and begin to play your match tiebreaker. Do not request officials to be on the court for match tiebreakers.
- Officials wll have responsibility for 6-8 courts. They are NOT a player's personal line judge. However, they WILL more closely watch the lines of a particular match when asked to by a player. Officials will not respond to parent requests for line judges.
Racquet Stringing
Racquet Stringing will be available
Athletic Trainer and Medical Timeouts

- If a player has a medical issue while on the court at any of the facilites, players may elect for their parent or coach to provide medical care during the 3-minute medical timeout. However, parents and coaches MAY NOT go on the court unless accompanied by the Tournament Official.
